Why join the Oatley RSL Sub Branch?

Our Mission

The Oatley RSL Sub-Branch is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for veterans and their families within the Oatley community. We align our mission with the values of RSL NSW, prioritising respect, support, and the well-being of those who have served our nation.

Our commitment is to provide essential face-to-face support and comradeship, ensuring that our local veterans and their families feel valued and connected. We actively engage with the wider community, promoting awareness of the services available to veterans through our Sub-Branch and RSL NSW. By facilitating access to local veteran support services, we aim to empower veterans and their families, helping them navigate resources for their unique needs.

Support & Engagement

RSL Sub-Branches are evolving. Gone are the days of groups of grumpy old men sitting around RSLs, drinking heavily, and talking about their service—behaviors that no longer define veteran support . The Oatley RSL Sub-Branch is a sub-branch focused on contemporary veterans and their families and the subsequent support and mateship the sub-branch and its members can provide contemporary veterans and their families of which also includes their immediate children. Joining the Oatley RSL Sub-Branch means becoming part of a modern, inclusive community dedicated to supporting contemporary veterans and their families, offering a range of social, sporting, and support activities—including school holiday programs, youth activities, and family events—designed to foster mateship, fun, and a safe environment for all. Our dedicated Welfare Support Officer (WSO) provides a wide array of support services tailored to the needs of our veteran members and their families, ensuring help is always available when needed.

Family Inclusiveness

The Oatley RSL Sub-Branch is now a vibrant, family-focused community centre dedicated to supporting contemporary veterans and their families, including their children.

We provide a range of social and sporting events for our members, alongside vital support services and activities tailored for veterans’ children. These include school holiday programs such as learn-to-sail classes, gymnastics, and youth activities through the Oatley RSL Youth Club and public events like the very successful Oatley RSL Sub-Branch annual Anzac Day family day. All our events are open to members’ children and partners, creating a safe, fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment for families to connect, support one another, and enjoy quality time together.

Social, Sport and Recreational Activities

At the Oatley RSL Sub-Branch, we’re proud to offer a diverse range of social, Recreational and sporting events for our members, as well as essential support services and activities specifically designed for veterans’ children. These include engaging school holiday programs such as learn-to-sail classes, gymnastics, and youth activities through the Oatley RSL Youth Club. All events are open to members’ children and partners, creating a safe, fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment for families to connect, support one another, and enjoy quality time together.

Our dedicated Welfare Support Officer (WSO) provides a wide array of support services tailored to the needs of our veteran members and their families, ensuring help is always available when needed. The Sub-Branch also actively participates in many adult recreational activities — from golf competitions, lawn bowls, sailing, and bushwalking with our dedicated bushwalking members, to social outings such as our annual trip to the Heritage Aviation Museum (HARS) and Fleet Air Arm Museum.

We regularly host social dinners and events, providing multiple opportunities for both new and current members to get involved in creating and managing sporting and recreational activities. The Oatley RSL Sub-Branch wholeheartedly promotes member involvement and encourages members to contribute ideas for new events or activities, with support available to bring those ideas to life.

Living by the motto "many hands make light work," we believe that volunteering and participation strengthen our community. When you volunteer at the Oatley RSL Sub-Branch, you have plenty of opportunity to share your ideas, take the lead, and help support our local veterans and their families — all while making new friends and enjoying meaningful experiences.
